Access is via several routes:
- From the Eastern Cape via Elliot & Maclear and a 60km good dirt road R56 (shortest route between Durban and Cape Town)
- From the Eastern Cape along the N2 via Umtata
- From KZN along the N2 from Durban via Port Shepstone
- From Gauteng along the R617 via Underberg
- From Lesotho via 3 different passes : Ramatseliso’s Pass, Qacha’s Nek and Ongeluksnek
- R364 between Swartberg and Matatiele (60km) earmarked for tarring in 2003. Will link Underberg and Matatiele directly.
