KokstadThe capital of East Griqualand, Kokstad lies in the
Umzimhlava River
basin between Mount Currie and the Ngele Mountains...256km
from
Durban, 195km from Pietermaritzburg and 130km from Port
Shepstone.
Well supplied with shops, social clubs, schools, historic
churches
and sporting facilities - including an 18-hole golf course -
Kokstad
is also where to arrange hikes in the Weza State
Forest...just across
the 'border' in the South Coast hinterland. Known as the
Ngele Forest
Lodge Trails, a choice of four walks - between 2km and 16km
in
length - will take you through indigenous forests and
commercial
plantations. There are several antelope species and a huge
variety of
birds in the forest.

MatatieleWith its roots in the 1860s, this hospitable little town
serves local
farming and trading communities...along with the
neighbouring Eastern
Cape and southern reaches of Lesotho - its border situated
22km
westwards.
Sporting facilities include a 9-hole course at the
Matatiele Country
Club...plus tennis, squash, bowls, polo and shooting.

SwartbergA centre for local agriculture, the Swartberg Farmers'
Association
celebrated its centenary in 1996. Stock-sale days create a
buzz of
interest, as do regular sporting occasions...particularly
on the 9-
hole golf course. Experience life on the farm by spending a
few days
learning how to milk a cow and shear a sheep.
